Kipseli In a city that is constantly changing and its history is written on multiple levels, the daily routine of life is often relegated to something secondary instead of being the basis on which the foundations for strong social bonds are built. The spaces we inhabit are being undermined and the trend towards constant migration towards increasingly digital gatherings and participation at a distance has in recent years reduced the possibility for exchange offered by physical presence. The home, the dwelling from a meeting and invitation point for friends and acquaintances has been transformed into a retreat or fortress. Parties and gatherings are subject to restrictions and rules imposed by this invisible tendency and need to safeguard our privacy. Yet this trend seems to be resisted and reversed with residents increasingly seeking and demanding spaces that are meant for long term habitation and neighborhood living and building. In this context, a building at 35 Mithymni Street in Kypseli was renovated with respect to its heritage, preserving its original character while upgrading it for the needs of contemporary living. Authentic elements, such as mosaic and wood floors, marble cladding an other materials, were carefully restored, preserving the uniqueness of the building. The project redefines 35 Mithymni Street, combining tradition and innovation, honoring the unique identity o Kypseli, while offering a modern way of life. Upon its completion, eleven artists living and working in Athens were invited to exhibit their works in a short exhibition entitled "HOUSEWARMING", and invite the public and the neighborhood to visit on Saturday, February 1, in warm-welcome. The selection was made by the artistic director of EU Japan Fest, Mikiko Kikuta. The Greek photographer will travel to Osaka for a 3-week residency and he will participate in Mystery 8 Eyes on Japan, capturing the convergences and divergences of the two cultures. Mystery 8 Eyes on Japan is part of the international program European Eyes on Japan, where European Capitals of Culture introduce a different region of Japan each year through this residency. The photographs will be presented in a publication entitled European Eyes on Japan/Japan Today. In addition, there will be an exhibition open to the public in Elefsina and after the works will be donated to the city as part of its contemporary cultural heritage.
